Mr. KOHL) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred
to the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry
A BILL
To authorize the
Secretary of Agriculture to establish a program to control bovine Johne's
disease.
Be it enacted by the
Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in
Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. TITLE.
This Act shall be known
as the `Johne's Disease Elimination Act'.
SEC. 2. BOVINE JOHNE'S DISEASE
CONTROL PROGRAM.
Title IV of the Agricultural
Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998 (7 U.S.C. 7621 et
seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following:
`SEC. 409. BOVINE JOHNE'S DISEASE
CONTROL PROGRAM.
`(a) ESTABLISHMENT- The
Secretary, in coordination with State veterinarians and other appropriate
State animal health professionals, may establish a program to conduct research,
testing, and evaluation of programs for the control and management of Johne's
disease in livestock.
`(b) FUNDING- Within the
sums already authorized under this Act, the Secretary shall use such sums
as are necessary to carry out this section for each of fiscal years 2003
through 2011.'.
