Mr. PETERSON of Minnesota introduced the following bill; which was referred
to the Committee on Agriculture
A BILL
To provide a temporary exception for certain Minnesota counties
from the limitation on the percentage of cropland that may be enrolled
in the conservation reserve and wetlands reserve programs.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. TEMPORARY EXCEPTION FOR CERTAIN MINNESOTA COUNTIES FROM THE
LIMITATION ON THE PERCENTAGE OF CROPLAND THAT MAY BE ENROLLED IN THE CONSERVATION
RESERVE AND WETLANDS RESERVE PROGRAMS.
Notwithstanding paragraphs (1) and (2) of section 1243(b) of the Food
Security Act of 1985, the Secretary of Agriculture shall exceed the limitations
in paragraph (1) of such section, in the case of each of the counties of
Roseau, Pennington, and Marshall, in the State of Minnesota, for the period
of calendar years 1999 through 2002, if the county or area committee established
for the county under section 8(b)(5) of the Soil Conservation and Domestic
Allotment Act (16 U.S.C. 590h(b)(5)) determine that such action would not
adversely affect the local economy of the county.
