Mr. PETERSON of Minnesota introduced the following bill; which was referred
to the Committee on Agriculture
A BILL
To amend the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit the interstate movement
of live birds for the purpose of having the birds participate in animal
fighting.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. PROHIBITION OF INTERSTATE MOVEMENT OF LIVE BIRDS FOR ANIMAL
FIGHTING.
(a) REMOVAL OF CURRENT EXCEPTION- Section 26 of the Animal Welfare
Act (7 U.S.C. 2156) is amended--
(1) by striking subsection (d); and
(2) by redesignating subsections (e) through (h) as subsection (d)
through (g), respectively.
(b) EFFECTIVE DATE- The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take
effect 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.
