Veneman Praises TPA Approval
May 24, 2002
Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman joined other Bush Administration officials in praising yesterday's Senate approval of Trade Promotion Authority legislation.
"We are extremely pleased that Trade Promotion Authority passed out of the Senate today with such strong bipartisan support," Veneman said. "This is extremely good news for American agriculture. And, it is an important step in restoring the President's authority to negotiate and enter into trade agreements that will boost U.S. food and agricultural exports.
"TPA is a critical tool in prying open international markets for U.S. farm and food products and the U.S. food and agriculture community has been one of the staunchest supporters of this legislation. We are thankful for its continued efforts toward passage of this important legislation."
