Feed Quality Workshop Scheduled
May 24, 2000
The National Grain and Feed Association will conduct the 13th in an ongoing series of feed quality assurance workshops July 10-11 in Sacramento, CA. The workshop helps feed mill managers custom-design their own feed quality assurance programs using as a model a first of its kind program developed by the NGFA.
Feed mills that implement quality assurance programs may be a lower priority for inspection by the Food and Drug Administration and some state feed control authorities, according to NGFA. FDA is considering launching a voluntary self-inspection pilot program later this year under which licensed feed mills generally would be exempted from routing biennial inspections of they implement quality assurance programs that meet FDA’s current good manufacturing practice regulations.
The model feed quality assurance program was developed by the association in 1994 and has been updated several times to reflect the latest industry practices. A major feature of the workshop is taht the faculty consists of quality assurance specialists from the feed industry.
Topics at the workshop include model quality assurance procedures for purchasing and receiving grains and feed ingredients; feed manufacturing and process control; inspection, sampling and labeling of finished feeds, and feed shipment and delivery.
