USDA, INSURANCE COMPANIES ACT
AGAINST PROGRAM ABUSE
March 1, 2000
The Risk Management Agency and
private insurance companies announced a joint effort to strengthen oversight and
combat abuse in the federal crop insurance program. In a press statement,
USDA said the initiatives will "strengthen program integrity, protect taxpayer
dollars, and better assure that those who deliberately break the rules are
caught and punished."
RMA and the companies who sell
crop insurance will implement a business process re-engineering plan, develop a
better error-tracking system, develop an early-warning system to detect problems
in the field, and take other steps.
