New Soy Soap Marketed
December 27, 2000
SOYP™, a new soy-based consumer hand cleaner is being marketed by Henneberry Marketing of El Paso, IL. It contains soybean oil, which is a significant source of vitamin E. "With a name like SOYP, it has to be made from soybeans. It's a natural ingredient for a hand cleaner," said Mark Henneberry, president of Henneberry Marketing.
"There are dozens of industrial hand cleaners on the market. We felt it was time somebody developed a consumer hand soap. And I think it's a better hand soap when it's made from soybean oil," he added.
Henneberry is marketing SOYP to farm stores and other retailers. SOYP will be offered in a private label version in a national specialty supply catalog in 2001. Besides providing a unique product to these retailers, it also helps educate consumers about possible products that can be made from soy. "Recent focus on hand cleaners hasn't been on home or office use, but industrial use," said Henneberry. "SOYP is perfect for everyone. It can sit in the kitchen sink or the office. But if someone comes in from working outdoors, they still feel like their hands are getting clean and moisturized at the same time."
Henneberry Marketing received funding for research efforts from the United Soybean Board, a farmer-funded, market development organization representing the interests of U.S. soybean farmers. The organization funds research and product development to increase the utilization of U.S. soybeans in five market segments, including lubricants, adhesives, plastics, coatings and inks, and special products.
