Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) renewed his call for Congress to approve new farm loan funds. Daschle, meeting with bankers from six states along with other Democratic Senators, said farmers’ ability to get operating loans this spring is threatened by failure to approve the funds.
The money is part of a long-stalled supplemental spending bill and is
not, in itself, controversial. However, it has been caught up in
larger political debates that have delayed approval of the supplemental
bill. Action could occur soon, however.
